LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) – A local Red Cross volunteer will go to Washington state to help the area reeling from a series of wildfires.
While volunteering with the American Red Cross there are some things Julie Demaree always carries.
“I carry some toothbrushes, my Leatherman, pens, pencils … hand sanitizer,” Demaree said.
On Wednesday the Loveland woman plans to carry her supplies out of state, on assignment to Wenatchee, Wash., where wildfires continue to burn and threaten homes.
“This is my chance to help them back,” she said.
Demaree has already helped Coloradans through the Waldo Canyon and High Park fires, and September’s devastating floods.
“I want to be able to give back all of the help that we got, and we believe we needed it when they came,” she said.
As a member of the Diaster Services Technology Team, Demaree will help set up computer resources so the Red Cross can do its work. She’s one of five Colorado volunteers to travel this summer to help Washington’s wildfire victims.
“It is that reassurance that your life is not over, it will continue and we will help you.”
Demaree plans to spend at least two weeks volunteering in Washington before returning home.
The state of Washington, here I come.”
