The girl was listed in critical condition Monday night after being flown to a Colorado Springs hospital where she underwent surgery.

Police arrested Adrian Chavez, the victim's mother's boyfriend, Monday after he fled. He will be charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury since he allegedly left the gun unattended. Chavez, 22, had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear.

The children said they learned to fire guns from watching video games, police said.
