Man Accused Of Robbing Bank While Wearing Real Name Tag Formally Charged

DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have formally charged a man accused of robbing a Denver bank while wearing a name tag identifying himself

The Denver District Attorney's Office said Monday that 68-year-old John Martinez has been charged with two felony counts of robbery. According to court records, Martinez walked into a bank in north Denver on July 22 wearing a T-shirt with the name "John" on the chest area. Investigators say witnesses recorded the robber's license plate, which was registered to Martinez.

The Denver Post reported Martinez was arrested a few hours after the robbery, and police say he told them he was sharing a motel room with his wife after the two were evicted from their home.

He is being held on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
