Naomi Almodovar, 23, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson, among other charges. Authorities accuse the suspect of setting the fire in an act of revenge against an ex-girlfriend.

"Her estranged partner was in that building and in that apartment, and we believe she intentionally set the fire there," Captain Larry Etheridge of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said.

The early-morning fire forced residents at the Copper Terrace Apartments to leap from windows in the third-story building. Some crafted makeshift ropes from bedding and used mattresses to escape the blaze.

Investigators determined the next day the cause was arson.
