Dems Slam Bloomberg For 'Rural' Colorado Remarks

PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — Some Colorado Democrats are publicly cringing at New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's off-base remarks about two of its cities.

In an interview with Rolling Stone posted online Thursday, Bloomberg said Pueblo and Colorado Springs, the state's second largest city, were as "rural as you can get" and doubted whether they had any roads. He was commenting on cities where voters recalled lawmakers who supported gun control legislation.

A campaign spokesman for Democratic Sen. Mark Udall compared Bloomberg to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in remarks to The Daily Sentinel. He said they should both stick to what they know best — "traffic jams and tiny sodas."

Democratic state Rep. Leroy Garcia of Pueblo told The Pueblo Chieftain that Bloomberg's comments show he has no understanding of Colorado values.
