3 Teens, 1 Adult Arrested In Playground Arson

ERIE, Colo. (CBS4) - Four people have been arrested in connection with arson at a playground in Erie last month.

Police in Erie arrested three juvenile males, ages 16, 17 and 17, and one adult male, Santino Maryland, 18 in connection with the June 18 fire at the playground of Black Rock Elementary School.

Police detectives in Erie worked with Mountain View Fire Rescue and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to successfully resolve the arson case.

The juveniles were transported to a juvenile detention facility and the adult was taken to a local county jail. All suspects live in Erie and were arrested on second degree arson charges.

The fire started at about 5:53 a.m. June 18 at the school located at 2000 Mountain View Boulevard in the Vista Ridge community.

The playground was completely charred and a lot of plastic is now missing because it melted. Nobody was injured and school is out for summer.

Fire crews from multiple agencies responded and knocked down the fire quickly, preventing the flames from spreading to the school.

Damage is estimated at between $50,000 and $80,000 by St. Vrain Valley School District officials.
