Mitch Unrein Very Impressed After Finally Meeting DeMarcus Ware

DENVER (CBS4) - Mitch Unrein signed his one-year, $1.4 million restricted free agent tender Monday. The Denver Broncos defensive tackle signed the tender the same day the team's offseason workout program began.

Unrein, from Eaton, Colo., said it was a foregone conclusion he would remain with his favorite team growing up.

"It's a blessing. I'm blessed to be where I am at today … you kind of get chills when I sat down in the office and signed that contract today," said Unrein, who was the guest on Xfinity Monday Live! "I mean, it is one of those dreams you have as a little kid; and I'm living that childhood dream and I'm just going to try to keep it going as long as I can and hopefully it's with the Denver Broncos for the rest of my career."

The Broncos got back to work at Dove Valley on Monday with the offseason conditioning program. Contrary to what some believe, Unrein said there's not a lot of work in the weight room -- it's more for conditioning.

"A lot of conditioning; we worked out for about two hours straight and you don't have any breaks at all. It's very high energy, high pace, high volume," he said. "We do all sorts of different stuff. It's not just getting in the squat rack and squatting or getting in the bench rack and just benching. It's a lot of functional movement things, a lot of stability, a lot of core work … I think that's really helped us as a team stay healthy."

John Elway went a little crazy with the wallet in the offseason and spent a lot of money helping the defensive side of the team. One of Elway's best acquisitions was defensive end DeMarcus Ware, and Unrein finally got to meet him on Monday.

"This is the first chance I got to speak with him in person and he's a great guy. I can tell that he's a leader from the first time I met him. He is actually a really big guy, too," Unrein said. "It's one of those things that I was kind of looking up to him.

"(Ware) has been playing for 10 years and he seems like he is in better shape now than he was maybe at the beginning of his career because he looked like he had been working out the whole offseason."

Unrein said having both Ware and Von Miller is going to create great pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

"It's going to wreak havoc to say the least because a lot of offenses try to double team Von Miller. Now they're going to only be able to double team one guy, so they are going to have to pick and choose who they double team each and every week. And we're going to get a lot of pressure on the quarterback, and that's going to free us up inside as well."

The Broncos first full-team, on-field offseason training activity will be held from May 28-30. The second will be held June 2-4 and the third June 16-19.
