Woods' One-Time Rival Duval Doesn't Expect Tiger To Beat Jack

DENVER (CBS4) - When CBS4's Vic Lombardi attended the Masters in Augusta last week the crowds just weren't the same as they had been in years past.

That's because Tiger Woods has a back injury and didn't play. Woods' one-time rival David Duval joined Lombardi on Monday at the Tavern Downtown in Denver for Xfinity Monday Live and shared a prediction about Woods' chances of winning another Masters.

"Not so much Augusta any longer," said Duval, who finished second in the Masters on two different occasions and was the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world at one point during his career.

"With what's happened to him I would think that the majors you'd expect him (to win) are going to turn into the opens," said Duval, referring to the British Open and the U.S. Open.

Many have speculated during his career that Woods would pass Jack Nicklaus, who holds the PGA record as the winner of 18 majors. Woods has won 14, but could he win five more?

"If you forced me to bet a dollar either way I'd say no," Duval said.

Duval said it's a shock to be saying that.

"I thought he was clearly going to get to 20 or 22," he said.

Duval pointed to multiple "rebuilds" of Woods' golf swing and off-the-course issues as the reason for his prediction.

"His swing was perfectly great as it was," he said. "It's sort of like a scientist trying to make things better. You're killing everybody as it is -- what's the difference? Just leave it alone."

Duval lives in the Denver area and is currently working to get back into professional golf tournaments right now. He's working on his swing, and he calls it a challenging process.
