Leadership Shakeup Hits GOP In Colorado House

DENVER (AP) - Republicans in the Colorado House are seeing a leadership shakeup after simmering tensions within the party.

Rep. Kevin Priola of Henderson resigned his post Monday as Republican caucus whip, a job that entails measuring support among fellow party members in advance of votes. Priola is expected to be replaced by Republican Rep. Polly Lawrence of Littleton.

The leadership shakeup comes after Priola angered some in his party by publicly disagreeing with a fellow Republican over a school-funding measure. Priola at first refused to resign as whip, prompting an unusual public meeting last week to discuss replacing him.

Democrats have a 37-28 advantage in the House.
