Man Accused Of Causing Rollover Crash Released From Hospital, Arrested

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Aurora have released the identity of a man they say was a passenger in a speeding car and pulled the emergency brake, causing the car to crash and seriously injuring both occupants.

William McKnight, 19, was released from the hospital and arrested.

The accident happened near Buckely and Evans just after noon on Sunday. Police said the red sedan lost control and hit the median then rolled three times before finally coming to a stop.

The female driver was ejected from the vehicle and the vehicle rolled over her. She and McKnight were rushed to the hospital.

Investigators said the two were arguing when the male passenger pulled the emergency brake while the driver was speeding. Neither was wearing their seatbelts.

McKnight has been charged with first-degree assault, violation of a protection order and reckless endangerment.

Witnesses told investigators the driver of the car may have been speeding. Police are also investigating whether alcohol was involved.
