Man Accused In Fatal Shooting Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) – A man accused in a fatal shooting last Wednesday has been formally charged.

According to Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office, Timothy Wakefield, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder after deliberation.

Officers responded to the 3200 Block of West Avondale Drive on report of a shooting at 8:17 p.m.

"When officers arrived, they discovered a male with an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased," police said in a statement.

Police believe Wakefield got into an argument with Christopher R. Demarco, 30, of Pennsylvania and shot him as he was leaving Wakefield's home.

"Wakefield was taken into custody at the scene by an apartment security guard and remains in custody in the Denver Detention Center," Kimbrough said in a statement.

Wakefield is scheduled to appear in court on Friday to be advised of the charges.
