Convicted Sex Offender Stabbed Outside His Boulder County Home

DENVER (CBS4) – Investigators are looking into a stabbing of a former youth hockey coach convicted of sexual exploitation of a child.

The victim of the stabbing has been identified as former Boulder youth hockey coach Zachary Meints. The 26-year-old was stabbed outside his Boulder County home on Monday afternoon.

Investigators say Meints was stabbed twice in the back and sustained injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.

Meints told police he was attacked by man wearing all black clothing and a mask after he arrived home and got out of his car.

Police have yet to locate a suspect. It's not clear if the stabbing has a connection to Meints' sex offender case.

Meints is a former coach for the Boulder Hockey Club and Rocky Mountain Rough Riders. Meints is on probation after being convicted of sending thousands of sexual texts and Facebook messages to children younger than 15.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Boulder County Sheriff's Department.
