Broomfield Mother, 2 Kids Tied Up By Burglars

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- A Broomfield woman and her two children escaped after being tied up by burglars after they caught the thieves in the act.

The mother and children returned to their home in the 4100 block of Red Deer Trail in Broomfield just before noon on Wednesday to find the burglars inside their home.

They had smashed in the back door and left a pile of broken glass.

"The homeowner arrived home with her two children and found her home being burglarized by two men," said Broomfield Police spokeswoman Joleen Reefe.

The burglars tied up all three and left them inside an upstairs closet. Then they stole items from the home and ran away.

The children's mother was able to escape and make her way outside where a neighbor called 911. No one was seriously injured.

Neighbors are shocked to learn of the traumatic home invasion.

"It felt surreal and now it's kind of sinking in," said one neighbor.

Police in Broomfield are concerned at the brazen acts of the burglars. They said this is the fourth in a series of robberies in the area since late February-- all with similar circumstances.

"They are taking an empty suitcase or purse and filling it up with any jewelry or cash they can find," said Reefe.

Even though no weapons were seen by the victims, police are asking neighbors and homeowners in the area to be aware, keep a lookout for each other and report anything suspicious to police.

"It's kind of shocking that it could happen in our area but I guess it could happen anywhere," said one neighbor.
