Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other. They started searching in the area surrounding the Pace Setter Motel for a black male described as in his mid-20s, 5-foot-6, 180 pounds, wearing a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.

After searching for more than two hours through several neighborhoods, officers cornered him in a field in Sand Creek Park near Peoria and Fitzsimmons.

He kept officers at a distance while he made suicidal statements. Officers kept negotiating with him but said the public was not in any danger.

Officers took the suspect into custody just before 8:30 a.m.

He was later identified as Jarnal M. Miles. Miles, 26, was booked into the Aurora Jail on charges of attempted homicide, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree assault with a bond of $100,000. He is awaiting transfer to the Adams County Jail.
