Pair Accused Of Targeting Homeless To Fraudulently Obtain New iPhones

LONE TREE, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in Lone Tree have issued a warning about a scam taking place against homeless and mentally challenged people.

According to police, Erin Chamblee, 35, and Casey Parker, 24, were arrested on Friday for suspicion of obtaining a signature through deception.

"The suspects in this case targeted individuals who are homeless and/or mentally challenged and offer a way for them to make money. The suspects then use the individuals to complete contracts at various retail phone stores where the contract includes a new iPhone," police said in a statement.

The pair allegedly asked the victims to sign multiple separate contracts to obtain more phones and then they would sell the phones for profit.

"The suspects tell the victims to cancel the contracts and assure them that they will be reimbursed for any cancellation fees, which they fail to do," police said.

Police warn that the victims could be responsible for the fees associated with cancellations.

The suspects' mug shots aren't being released as police search for additional victims.

Additional Information From The Lone Tree Police Department

The Police Department is asking anyone who thinks they might have been a victim, or anyone who has additional information, to contact them at 303-339-8150.
