Loveland Ski Area Surpasses 300 Inches Of Snow

LOVELAND, Colo. (CBS4) – The Loveland Ski Area has just surpassed 300 inches of snow for the season.

With snow continuing to pile up at ski areas many are putting this winter in their top 10. Even out-of-state skiers like Brendan Shanahan are getting a piece of the action.

"It's my first day sampling the American goods," said Shanahan, who was visiting from New Zealand.

"It's a little tracked but you can explore through the trees it's pretty good. This snow, mountains, it's awesome, same friendly people, it's good times," said Shanahan.

Despite the great snow the ski area has yet to reach its record snowfall amount this season.

"We're sitting at 319 inches of snow and conditions are as good as they've been ever at Loveland Ski Area," said John Sellers from the Loveland Ski Area.

Loveland averages 422 inches of snowfall each year and that mark is expected to be easily reached this year.

"March is our snowiest month. We average about 70 inches and April is just behind that, so snow is great and it looks like it's just going to get better," said Sellers.

Skier Keith Dana feels that the snow and skiing this season has been amazing.

"Since Christmas it's been snowing all the time and it's been awesome. They have some fresh snow and a lot of soft stuff still around. Not too many people and it's an awesome day," said Dana.

Loveland isn't the only resort to have reached the 300 inch mark, or 25 feet of snow so far this year. Breckenridge is one and other resorts like Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain are very close.

"We always close the first weekend in May, so May 4 is our closing day, but conditions are going to get better. As I said, some of the best conditions we've ever seen here ever in our 76 years of skiing and snowboarding, and we're going to finish on a high note, that's for sure," said Sellers.

Copper Mountain said on Sunday that it's already half a foot ahead of its annual average.
