Columbine Principal Frank DeAngelis Encourages Northeast Ohio Community
CHARDON, Ohio (AP) - The northeast Ohio community where three students died in a school shooting has received encouragement and advice from the principal who oversaw Colorado's Columbine High School during and since the deadly 1999 shootings there.
Principal Frank DeAngelis spoke Wednesday in Chardon, telling residents that the healing process is continual and that things never really get back to normal after such a tragedy. He said those coping with such situations must "redefine what normal is."
Next Thursday is the two-year anniversary of the Chardon High School shooting.
Nineteen-year-old T.J. Lane pleaded guilty and is serving life sentences for the rampage at the school east of Cleveland. He has appealed his sentence.
Investigators have said the alternative school student admitted to the shooting but said he didn't know why he did it.
