Greeley Police Say Incident At Day Care Was Just A Mixup

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Greeley on Wednesday said an incident at a day care on Monday that initially appeared to be suspicious is now resolved.

Police started investigating after a couple came to Sunshine Day Care on 16th Street and said they were there to pick up a girl with no other information other than her first name. As staff tried to contact the parents for approval the couple said they had the wrong place and left.

The couple wound up seeing news reports about the situation and contacted police.

Police said they were able to resolve the situation after determining that "there are two day care facilities in very close proximity to each other." They said the child the couple was supposed to be picking up "actually attends the second day care."

Greeley police described the complications further on Wednesday.

"Additionally, and unavailable for release last night, the two children have very similar unusual names, and their mothers names are similar, too. The child at the first day care attends only one day a week, so as this situation unfolded and with the unusual circumstances, an investigation was initiated."
