Boulder Bans Smoking On Downtown City Property

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Boulder's city manager has adopted a rule that bans smoking on downtown city property.

Jane Brautigam adopted the rule Tuesday after 15 days of public comment, saying "many in our community voiced support for creating a public space that is healthy and welcoming for all."

The rule would prohibit smoking in outside public space or in parked cars in an area between 13th and Ninth streets and between Arapahoe Avenue and Canyon Boulevard. It would not apply to private businesses within those boundaries.

City officials have compared the rule to Boulder's ban on smoking on a significant portion of the Pearl Street Mall.
