Retailers Open Early So Broncos Fans Can Stock Up On Apparel

DENVER (CBS4) - Several stores opened early Monday to stock up on Denver Broncos apparel after the Broncos defeated the New England Patriots to earn their first trip to the Super Bowl since 1998.

The Broncos going to the Super Bowl means big business for retailers such as the Sports Authority on Broadway and 10th Avenue in Denver. As soon as they opened their doors Monday morning fans were shopping.

Some retailers had employees working through the night to make sure the shelves were stocked with Broncos gear.

Sports Authority's manager says sales were great on Sunday and they were anticipating the same Monday because they've already gotten two shipments of Broncos AFC Championship apparel. They're expecting one more, including 1,000 shirts.

Fan and early shopper Shelby Winston said he heard on the radio that Sports Authority would be open and decided to drop in to see what they had, even though he said he's more of a Patriots fan.

"That Peyton Manning is phenomenal. He's one of the best quarterbacks I've ever seen," Winston said. "The only way I think Seattle can get them is if they put serious pressure on him and get to him, otherwise it's going to be over."

Denver natives Jan and Forney Wells were also up bright and early to buy Broncos gear.

"We were at the game yesterday; and these (Broncos shirts) are going to Australia, Minnesota and home, and we'll be wearing them," Jan Wells said.
