Manhunt Underway After Lamar Officer Injured By Suspect

LAMAR, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lamar are searching for a suspect after an officer was assaulted during a traffic stop and the officer opened fire.

According to police, at approximately 8:15 p.m. Wednesday a Lamar police officer contacted the driver a vehicle at a convenience store in the 1400 block of South Main Street.

"The officer attempted to arrest the driver. The driver resisted and assaulted the officer. Shots were fired by the officer during the encounter," police said in a statement.

Nobody was injured by the shots.

The suspect fled the scene and police are still searching.

The officer was taken to Prowers Medical Center and was treated for his injuries and released.

Police haven't released the names of the officer or the suspect.
