Shoplifters Use Pepper Spray At Verizon Store In Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Deputies in Jefferson County have released pictures of two suspects who they say released pepper spray in a store.

The incident occurred in the Verizon store located at 8430 West Cross Drive on Sunday.

An employee called police and said two Hispanic males ran from the store after stealing two iPhones from the floor display.

"Both floor models were tethered with wire, causing an audible alarm to go off when the wire was disconnected," Jacki Kelley with the sheriff's department said.

Employees tried to stop the suspects but one of them "began spraying a chemical agent from a large canister directly at the employees," Kelley said.

The suspects fled in a black four-door Honda sedan.

Twenty-one employees and customers were treated at the scene for exposure to pepper spray.

The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5-foot-9 with a thin build, spiked black hair and was wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5-foot-11, 150 pounds and was wearing a black beanie hat, black jacket, red t-shirt and blue jeans.
