3 Die In Small Plane Crash On Western Slope

COLLBRAN, Colo. (CBS4) - Three men from Mesa County are dead after a plane crash on Thursday.

Crews found the plane's wreckage on Thursday night in a remote area east of Collbran and 35 miles northwest of Grand Junction.

Officials with the Mesa County Sheriff's office said the plane with a pilot and two passengers left the Mack Mesa Airport on Thursday to look for livestock over the Grand Mesa.

The pilot was 49-year-old Dana Brewer and the passengers were 47-year-old William Kennon and 47-year-old Richard James Platz.

The plane was a Piper PA-24 single engine prop plane.

Recovery efforts were taking place on Friday morning.

So far there's no word on the cause of the crash.

The Associated Press reported that officials with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
