Weld County Reports First Colorado Flu Death

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Weld County is reporting the first death of the Colorado flu season - a young adult who died of the H1N1 strain.

That strain is the same strain as the 2009 flu pandemic.

The county health department reported Wednesday that dozens of people have been hospitalized because of the flu across Colorado, including three cases in Weld County. The department urged residents to get their annual flu vaccinations.

Debbie Drew, director of Weld County's public health services, says this year's vaccine contains antibodies to protect against the H1N1 strain as well as two other flu strains.

Flu season in Colorado typically peaks in January or February.
