Parker Adventist Hospital Offers Free Hip & Knee Surgeries To Needy

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - Eddie Gallegos can't wait to shovel snow. The pain in his joints is so bad he can barely stand. But now thanks to "Operation Walk" he's getting free surgery to fix his joins.

Parker Adventist Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the Denver area providing free hip and knee replacements for those who can't afford the surgery.

For Gallegos, it can't happen soon enough.

"This year I was top of the line, so they're going to get it done for me and I can start walking -- walking to the store -- just walking," Gallegos said.

"This week we're taking part in 'Operation Walk USA.,' There are over 30 states, several hundred physicians giving out free joint replacement to patients who are without insurance." surgeon Dr. Derek Johnson said.

Operation Walk started as an international mission; however the need is so great that doctors now do it in the U.S.
