Woman Accused Of Starting Car Fire In Downtown Denver In Court

DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - A woman accused of starting a car on fire in front of the Webb Municipal Building downtown appeared in court on Friday.

Emalik R. Bey was standing right next to the suspect, identified as Anastasia Gordeeva, and says she told him that she rented a car and set it on fire after visiting the sheriff's office.

People ran from the area as the car exploded. Firefighters then extinguished the blazing car.

Court documents show there was a blanket in the back seat of her car she used to help start the fire.

Bey said Gordeeva, 39, told him she's a victim of domestic abuse. The sheriff's office said she had just been inside the Webb Municipal Building asking for restraining order paperwork.

The judge advised Gordeeva that she is being investigated for arson, which is a possible felony charge. Her bond was set at $5,000. She remains in custody.
