Brighton Teen Killed In Apparent Hunting Accident

SALIDA, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a 14-year-year-old boy was killed when he apparently shot himself accidentally during a family hunting trip in south-central Colorado's San Isabel National Forest.

The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office says Ian Dante Muro, of Brighton, was hunting with his father, mother and grandfather Saturday afternoon. The father and grandfather called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. to report that the boy had separated from the group when they heard a shot and found him nearby, lying motionless with his rifle.

Ian suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.

An autopsy planned for Monday will determine the cause and manner of death, but an initial investigation indicates the shooting was accidental.
