Man Accused Of Hitting Woman Because Of Her Race Formally Charged

DENVER (CBS4) - A man accused of hitting a woman because of her race has been formally charged.

Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver District Attorney's Office said Christopher Roman Lucki, 33, is charged with bias-motivated crime and third-degree assault.

According to Kimbrough, On August 28, 2013, the 44-year-old woman was sitting outside near 16th and Court streets when someone hit her over the head.

"The charges allege that it was Lucki who assaulted her and that he did so because of her race and nationality," Kimbrough said in a statement. "Lucki was identified as the suspect in this case and was originally charged with a city ordinance violation of assault and disturbing the peace. Upon further review, it was determined that state charges were appropriate based on the facts of the case."

Lucki remains behind bars on a $25,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
