DILLON, Colo. (AP) - Two Colorado ski resorts that are among the first in the state to open for the winter season and among the last to close have begun making snow.

Arapahoe Basin and Loveland are taking advantage of cooler weather and fall mountain storms to complement the natural snow with some man-made flakes. Both resorts fired up their snow-making machines Friday.

John Sellers, Loveland's marketing director, says "every flake that falls from the sky or from one of our snow guns gets us that much closer to Opening Day."

Loveland started making snow on Oct. 4 last season and opened Oct. 23. A-Basin typically opens at around the same time.
