The sheriff's office says the man and a family member who was in the canoe were wearing personal flotation devices Sunday evening when the incident happened. Witnesses told officials that the man was struggling in the water trying to make it to shore. Two fishermen pulled him to the shoreline but he was not breathing. He died at the scene.

The family member on the canoe survived.

Sheriff's spokesman Cmdr. Rick Brough says the name of the victim will be released when all relatives have been notified. An investigation into the incident is ongoing but no foul play is suspected.
