CDOT Hopes To Use New Method For Avalanche Blasting
DENVER (CBS4) - It's the unofficial end to summer this weekend but crews are already looking ahead to winter.
Colorado Department of Transportation engineers hope to partner with the U.S. Forest Service in using remote-controlled blasters to trigger small snow slides. They believe it will keep big avalanches from blocking Berthoud Pass near Winter Park Resort.
The new method would replace the current practice of firing shells into avalanche zones.
