Police Arrest Suspect In Lakewood Arson
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities in Lakewood have arrested an arson suspect who had been on the run.
Lucas J. Piper, 22, was arrested late Friday after detectives received a tip as to his whereabouts.
According to Steve Davis with Lakewood police, a large number of people went to a home in the 12300 block of West Viewpoint Drive early last Saturday after returning from a late night concert.
"An argument between many of the people on scene occurred and at least two of them, a male a female left for a short while. Before leaving, the two threatened the others at the house," Davis said in a statement.
Police and firefighter were later called to the home just before 5 a.m. and found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Davis said investigators believe a short time later Rachel Lewin, 21, and Piper returned to the residence and used flammable liquid to start the home on fire.
"The other occupants were able to escape with one of them sustaining minor injuries," Davis said.
Lewin was taken into custody at the time.
Piper was booked Friday on charges of first-degree arson and attempted murder.
