Denver Native Returns With Latest Broadway Production

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver native and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School Nancy Nagel Gibbs returns with her latest Broadway production and Tony Award winner "Peter and the Starcatcher."

Gibbs has been one of the leading producers on Broadway for the past 30 years.

In August the national tour of "Peter and the Starcatcher" will launch at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

It's a wildly creative blend of music and comedy, adventure and romance. It provides a back story for the character Peter Pan, and serves as a prequel to "Peter and Wendy."

CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody said the production is done in a way that you've never seen before.

That's what drew Gibbs to the show; the uncommon sense of imagination the floods the stage.

"When I saw that I said, 'This is why I got into theater. This is something that needs to be seen by as many people as possible,'" said Gibbs.

That led Moody to ask what does a Broadway producer actually do? The answer: a lot.

"I always say a producer does three things; they choose the artistic content, they raise the money and they guide the advertising because the advertising is how you make sure you get your investor's money back," said Gibbs. "This is a show where we had less to do with the creative because this was a show commissioned by Disney."

Moody said Gibbs and her fellow producers, along with an amazing cast and creative team, have put together a show that touches hearts and takes the audience back to a time when imagination meant everything.

"Peter and the Starcatcher" is at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House from August 15 through Sept. 1.
