Man Suspected In 6 Attempted Carjackings In 1 Afternoon

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Lakewood have taken a man into custody who is the suspect in as many as six attempted carjackings on Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the suspect was successful in at least two carjackings.

Officers caught up with the man, identified as Shane Edward Corp, 38, at the main reservoir located at Kipling and Florida after he tried to swim away from officers.

The incident may have initially started in Denver with a pursuit.

One victim said she had just parked her car and opened the door when the suspect threatened her with a knife.

"I rolled the windows up, swung the door wide open and he came out of nowhere, he was right here with a knife," said carjacking victim Rachel Gam. "He was just like, 'Get out, get out, get out!' and I was like, 'Okay, okay, okay' and that was it."

Corp has an extensive criminal record totaling 11 pages with several arrests for drugs and sexual assault.

"He looked like a meth head. He had blood on his arm," said Gam.

Corp was hospitalized after his arrest. He remained in serious condition on Wednesday. The extent of his injuries was not released.
