Nathan Leon's Father: 'Every Day Is A Struggle'

DENVER (CBS4)- Four months after a father was gunned down while delivering pizzas to make ends meet for his family, his children will be awarded a scholarship in hopes of still having a bright future.

Nathan Leon was shot and killed by White Supremacist Evan Ebel on March 17 in Golden. Ebel then went on to shoot and kill Colorado Prison Chief Tom Clements. Ebel was eventually tracked down in Texas where he was shot and killed after shooting a deputy in the head.

Nathan's father, John Leon, said his 27-year-old son dedicated his life to provide for his family.

"I miss seeing him with his daughters, seeing his interaction and the playing. All of these things I really miss," said John. "I can't believe in some ways it's been four months. Every day is a struggle."

Because Nathan was the sole provider for his family they are struggling in his absence. A charity created by caring members of the community hope to give his children the chance to take advantage of every opportunity.

Proceeds from the Byran Seymour Scholarship Fund Car Show will be donated to Nathan's three daughters, Kaydance, Schotlyn and Irelynn.

"For people to recognize that he was such a great father and they want to do something for his daughters. It obviously brings tears to my eyes," said John.

John said Nathan's daughters are still learning to cope with their father's death. He hopes the scholarship will help give them a brighter future.

"This is a way for them to remember their father because they will have this," said John.

The charity event is called "Down in the Weeds" at 14661 Garfield Street in Brighton on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature several exhibits including hot rods, street machines and motorcycles from all over Colorado.
