Rural Electricity Providers Begin Renewable Talks
DENVER (AP) - Rural electricity providers are preparing for talks with Colorado's governor on how to increase renewable energy sources.
The first meeting of the advisory group created by Gov. John Hickenlooper is planned for Wednesday.
Hickenlooper created the eight-person panel when he signed a law that doubles renewable energy standards for rural energy suppliers.
The law requires Colorado's rural cooperative electric associations to get 20 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2020, up from 10 percent. The panel is charged with advising the governor on the law's effectiveness.
The Colorado Energy Office first said Wednesday's meeting would be closed to the public. The Associated Press protested, noting that the panel is subject to Colorado open meetings law. The office agreed and opened the meeting.
The Advisory Committee meeting is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Colorado Energy Office, 1580 Logan St., Suite 100, Denver.
