Authorities Identify 3 In Apparent Murder-Suicide

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Sheriff's officials say two women found dead in Peyton were the wife and mother of a driver who fatally shot himself after leading authorities on a chase.

El Paso County sheriff's officials said Thursday that deputies went to a home in Peyton on Monday after learning 53-year-old James Buchanan had told a relative that he had killed his wife, Annetta Buchanan, and his mother, Grace Buchanan.

Deputies went to the home, found the women dead and saw James Buchanan driving away. Other officers followed Buchanan into Lincoln County, where he slid off the road and shot himself.

Coroner's officials say the women also died of gunshot wounds. Their deaths have been ruled homicides.

Sheriff's officials have interviewed family members but say there is no obvious motive.
