DENVER (AP) - The Hallmark Channel says it will film a television series in Telluride this summer, and state officials credit a revamped film incentives program for bringing the show to Colorado.

Gov. John Hickenlooper joined officials from the channel and lawmakers in making the announcement Tuesday. The series "When Calls the Heart" is supposed to be set in a 19th century coal town.

Hickenlooper says it's the first television series filmed in the state since 1991. Lawmakers who support more robust tax incentives for film production have argued Colorado has lagged behind other states with higher tax credits.

Filming begins July 22.

The Denver Post reports the Colorado Economic Development Commission agreed to make $2.7 million in tax rebates available to the series.
