'Gypsies' Sentenced For Stealing From Elderly

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - A man and a woman who described themselves as gypsies have been sentenced for tricking elderly Coloradans and robbing them in their homes.

Javon Ristick, 26, and Erik Burt, 27 pleaded guilty to burglarizing the homes of Colorado's senior citizens. Both were sentenced to serve eight years each with the Department of Corrections.

The two stole tens of thousands of dollars from 10 different homes located on the Front Range and on the Eastern Plains. They both agreed to pay $52,100 each in restitution.

Authorities say they were able to get into the victims' homes by pretending they were relatives or neighbors and asking if they could use their bathrooms.

Ristick distracted the victims through conversation while Burt found and stole cash, jewelry, collector coins and other items.

The victims were located in Denver, Lakewood, Arvada, Golden and Colorado Springs, plus Strasburg and Lincoln County out east.
