MORRISON, Colo. (CBS4) – The schedule is out for the annual summer film series at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and fans of The Hunger Games have reason for excitement.

The futuristic thriller will play to what will surely be a packed crowd under the stars at the Morrison venue on July 15. The movie was a big hit at theaters last spring, and CBS4 Critic at Large Greg Moody gave the movie a green light.

“I loved the book ‘The Hunger Games.’ It took me into a world of imagination that could too easily exist. It was exciting — chilling — and thought provoking. And for the most part, the movie matches that point for point,” Moody said during his review of the film.

The other movies playing under the stars, along with the bands playing that night, include:

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 BACK TO THE FUTURE- Patrick Dethlefs and Raven and the Writing Desk
Tuesday, June 04, 2013 RISKY BUSINESS (30th Anniversary)- The Lone Bellow
Tuesday, June 11, 2013 WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER- The Knew and Kissing Party
Tuesday, June 18, 2013 MEAN GIRLS- Sarah and the Meanies and Kitty Crimes

Tuesday, July 23, 2013 THE PRINCESS BRIDE- School of Rock USA All Stars

Last year more than 60,000 people attended Film on the Rocks events, which also include local bands performing at the venue before the start of each movie. The full list of bands performing has yet to be announced.

Film on the Rocks is a joint production of the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues. Tickets cost $12, but they are more expensive if you buy them on the night of the movie at the Red Rocks Box Office.
