Colorado Man Sentenced For Sending Meth To Alaska

DENVER (AP) - A Northglenn man was sentenced Monday to more than 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to sending methamphetamine from Colorado to Fairbanks, Alaska.

Mario Gutierrez was sentenced by a federal court judge in Anchorage. He had pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy and money laundering.

Prosecutors said that between 2009 and 2011, Gutierrez sent methamphetamine from the Denver area to Fairbanks and received $347,000 in cash payments.

In October, a co-conspirator, Jess Baird of Fairbanks, was sentenced more than 7 years in prison for his role in the ring.

The Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Service, the North Pole and Fairbanks, Alaska, police departments and Alaska State Troopers participated in the investigation.
