Brothers Accused In Denny's Parking Lot Murder Appear In Court

DENVER (CBS4) - It was a difficult day Tuesday in Denver court for friends of the man shot and killed outside a Denny's restaurant.

Brothers Robert and Paul Bernal were in court to be advised of the first-degree murder charges they face in the death of Chris Haney.

Police say the brothers were fighting at a Denny's parking lot on West Alameda last month. Haney was also dining and investigators say when he tried to break up the scuffle the brothers shot him.

Haney's friend says the case is tough for both families.

"You know the shocking thing, obviously this is the first step in this trial, is that these are just kids who made some really bad decisions," Haney's friend David DeVoe said.

The Bernal brothers are being held without bond.
