GOP Congressional Members Review Forest Health

DENVER (AP) — Six Republican congressional members from the West met in Denver Thursday to review forest management and wildfire prevention practices.

The hearing featured testimony from former Interior Secretary Gale Norton, the executive director of Colorado's Department of Natural Resources and several county commissioners.

The lawmakers attending were U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce of New Mexico, Rep. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, and Reps. Mike Coffman, Cory Gardner, Doug Lamborn and Scott Tipton of Colorado.

Legislators and witnesses discussed the best ways to minimize wildfire risk. They focused on both prescribed burns and cutting down dead trees, highlighting the cost and regulatory issues that come with each approach.

The hearing was a congressional field hearing on forest management for informational purposes only.
