Boy Wounded After Being Shot Inside SUV

DENVER (CBS4) - An 8-year-old boy is in the hospital with serious injuries after being shot Monday night.

According to Denver police, the crime happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. near 6th and Knox. Authorities said a white car pulled up to a Jeep and fired at least one shot toward the rear of the vehicle. The bullet struck the child in the back.

The white car drove off and the driver of the Jeep went to a 7-Eleven near 5th and Federal to call for help. Paramedics took the 8-year-old to the hospital, where he may require surgery Tuesday morning.

Police are looking for two Hispanic men who may be driving a white Volvo. No other suspect description is available. At one point on Tuesday it appeared the men might have been located in South Denver, but police said two men who were detained in a white Volvo at Federal and Belleview were released.

Police said the boy's mother and mother's friend were also in the Jeep at the time of the shooting. Their names have not been released.

Denver officers are still investigating the shooting. Anyone with more information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
