Preemies Get Special Wardrobe Thanks To Seamstress Grandmother

DENVER (CBS4)- A local grandmother has created a special wardrobe for preemies to help keep them snug without sacrificing comfort for essential nutrients and medication.

Georgia Lallo or "Grandma Georgia" as she is known, has designed special clothing for premature babies after her own grandson arrived a few weeks early.

Three years ago her grandson was born early and required G-tube surgery.

"It's a tube that's placed into the baby's stomach because they're not able to swallow or eat," said Lallo.

The special needs were challenging to Lallo and her family, especially when it came to her grandson's clothing.

"Whenever feeding time it the baby would be partially undressed," said Lallo.

She learned to sew and created G-tube adaptive onesies.

"I came up with this concept to where now she can just unsnap this and open this without unclothing the baby," said Lallo.

Lallo recognizes that her grandson isn't the only baby with special needs and now she volunteers her talents with the March of Dimes.

Every month she visits families struggling with all the challenges a premature baby can bring. She then makes special onesies for them to make that part of their life easier.

Denise Urban is baby Brogan's grandmother. He also has a G-tube and she said this gift will be appreciated every day.

"I know that it seems like something little but it means something to see him be somewhat normal," said Urban.

"It's just my pleasure. Just helping your child does it for me," said Lallo. "I never thought volunteering could be so inspiring. It's the best thing I've ever done in my life."
