Arrest In Metal Thefts From Colorado Springs Homes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP/CBS4) — Colorado Springs police have arrested a man accused of stealing $200,000 worth of copper pipe and other metal from homes under construction, including some that were being rebuilt after being burned in the Waldo Canyon Fire.

Charles Butcher was being held Monday with bail set at $100,000. He is due in court Thursday. It wasn't immediately known if he has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

"It's very frustrating, it's very unsettling, kind of nerve wracking, because we already lost everything first time around," Waldo Canyon Fire victim Jonni McCoy said.

Detectives say Butcher was selling stolen metal to scrapyards.

The Waldo Canyon Fire killed two people and destroyed or damaged 359 homes last year.
