Judge OK With Evidence Work In Colorado Shootings

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — The judge in the Colorado theater shootings says he's satisfied that prosecutors have told defense lawyers about all the evidence.

In an order made public Thursday, the judge said prosecutors have shown him they're taking "exceptional and unprecedented" steps with evidence.

The judge told prosecutors last week to certify they had reviewed police files and had told the defense about them.

Prosecutors objected, saying the judge had no authority for the order. They asked for a clarification and a hearing.

In Thursday's order, the judge said laws and court precedents give him broad authority over evidence management. He refused to issue a clarification or schedule a hearing.

James Holmes is charged with murder in the July shootings, which killed 12. A judge entered a not guilty plea for him.
