Colorado Congressman Reveals N. Korea Nuke Secret

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A secret that was revealed by a congressman from Colorado about the capability of North Korea to launch nuclear warheads has caused quite a stir.

During an open hearing Rep. Doug Lamborn, a Republican representing Colorado Springs, surprised everyone when he read from a report mistakenly declassified by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

"This is unclassified so I can make it public. DIA assesses with moderate confidence the North currently has nuclear weapons capable of delivery by ballistic missiles, however the reliability will be low," said Lamborn.

Until now no intelligence agency has said North Korea could make weapons small enough to put on the tip of a missile.

North Korea appears ready to test launch two intermediate range missiles without warheads.

Those missiles would not be able to strike Hawaii or the U.S. mainland.

The Pentagon has positioned ships in the Pacific Ocean to intercept them if need be.

President Obama reiterated on Thursday the U.S. will take all necessary steps to protect Americans.
