Larimer County Warns Of Rabies In Area

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — Two Larimer County residents this week have started preventive vaccinations for rabies as health officials warn of rabies in the county.

Larimer County health officials Saturday also say they've confirmed rabies in a fox that attacked a pet dog in Berthoud, raising concerns because the area is near horse properties. Officials say it's the first time the viral disease has been confirmed in a fox in Larimer County.

Commonly transmitted by skunks and bats, health officials say they've seen rabies in animals in the county from Berthoud to near LaPorte, as well as in Windsor to the east.
