Teen Spends Spring Break In A Box For A Good Cause

DENVER (CBS4)- Forget about the beach or hanging out by the pool this spring break, one Denver teen is spending it in a box on the median of the 16th Street Mall.

Derek McKee is a senior at Heritage High School. He works with the Little Red Wagon Foundation which helps underprivileged kids.

This spring break he's drawing attention to the 1,500 homeless kids in Denver.

"It's all about the homeless youth. It's all about the homeless youth. This week I want to get a better idea of what they go through and I know I'm not going through exactly what they're going through but I want them to know that somebody cares. And it's not just a check that I'm writing I'm dedicating my senior year spring break to make them a little bit happier," said McKee.

McKee is collecting canned food for the Food Bank of the Rockies. He said the response has been amazing. He will leave the box next week.
